Q&A

U.S. citizens must have a passport valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from Portugal.
The European travel visa (ETIAS) requirement has been delayed until 2026, so no visa is needed for most travelers from the U.S.
However, if you have an international layover, please check the visa requirements for that specific country.
When we imagined our wedding, we knew we wanted more than a single day. We wanted an experience — something intimate, meaningful, and rooted in quality time with the people we love most.
Portugal felt like the perfect fit. It’s stunningly beautiful, easy to travel to, and full of warmth and hospitality. The food, scenery, and slower pace gave us the chance to turn our celebration into a full weekend retreat, not just a one-night event.
We also knew we wanted to celebrate our cultures in a way that felt authentic to us. While the setting is new, the heart of the weekend will reflect the traditions, values, and joy we carry with us — and we cannot wait to share that with you.
We’d love to include everyone, but due to venue capacity, we are only able to accommodate the names listed on your invitation. Thank you so much for understanding!
Portugal in August is warm, sunny, and absolutely beautiful. Here are a few helpful tips as you prepare for the trip:
Comfortable walking shoes are a must if you’re planning to explore cities like Lisbon, Sintra, or the Douro Valley. Many areas are cobblestoned or hilly, and there is plenty of charm to discover on foot.
Our wedding ceremony will take place outdoors on a lawn, so while stilettos are absolutely welcome, we recommend being mindful of the terrain. Heel protectors are a great option if you plan to wear thin heels.
Attire: Black Tie. We kindly request formal evening wear for our celebration at Palácio do Freixo. Tuxedos or formal dark suits are appropriate for gentlemen, and floor-length gowns or elegant formal attire for ladies. August evenings in Porto are typically warm with a gentle breeze, making breathable fabrics ideal for the celebration. Guests are also warmly welcome to celebrate in traditional Nigerian attire if they wish.
A light layer or wrap may come in handy for breezy evenings or coastal outings.
For the welcome event, attire is Cocktail Chic. Think elevated summer evening. Dresses, jumpsuits, heels or dressy flats for ladies; dress shirts, slacks, loafers for gentlemen. Jackets optional.
Yes! We are happy to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, or allergy-friendly meals. Please include any dietary needs in your RSVP, or email our planner Olivia directly at olivia@aboutevents.com.pt.
We are planning an adults-only celebration, with the exception of children in our immediate family and wedding party with whom we’ve spoken directly. We’re also working to confirm a vetted nanny service as a resource during the event. Thank you so much for your understanding and support — it truly means a lot to us.
We’ll be arriving in Portugal about a week before the wedding!
Our tentative itinerary includes a couple of days in Lisbon, followed by Porto for relaxation and last-minute prep.
We’ll share a few optional outings (like wine tastings or coastal walks!) for anyone coming early — more details to come.
Yes! We’ve secured discount codes with special rates at our venue and some other surrounding hotels. Please refer to the Travel & Accommodations page for the full booking details and discount codes.
Yes — though your love and presence are the greatest gifts! For those who’ve asked, we’ve created a small registry to help us begin our new chapter together. You can find it on the Registry page.
While we’re not planning to live stream the ceremony, we’ll be working with a team or photographers and videographers to capture the special moments. We’ll share highlights after the wedding so that those celebrating from afar can still feel part of the experience.
We’re planning a full weekend of celebration! ✨
Details will be updated on our site and shared via email, text, & WhatsApp as the date approaches. Expect events from Thursday, August 6 through Saturday, August 8, including a welcome party, wedding day, and a fun farewell gathering.
We’ve put together a list of favorite sights, eats, and experiences on our Portugal Visitor Guide page.
We’re also planning optional group outings (like a vineyard tour) for those arriving early — stay tuned for invites to those special moments!
